Frequently Asked Questions
Below you'll find some answers to the most common questions
regarding building a web site and Internet development in
general:
Why does my business need a web site?
While we could go on for days describing the advantages of
having a web site (branding, providing new revenue streams,
saving on printing and mailing costs, reaching a worldwide
market, making your business run more efficiently, etc.),
only you can determine if your business needs a web
site.
More important than having a web site, however, is to set
goals for your web site. Without attainable, measurable, and
focused goals, your web site will flounder around in cyberspace
accomplishing little but satisfying your vanity.
If you have an inkling that a web site is in your future,
but you're not sure how it can help, please contact us. After
we learn about your business, we might be able to suggest
ways a web site can be beneficial to your company's bottom
line.
Do you provide a free consultation?
Yes. Check out our full answer here.
How much will it cost to create or redesign my web site?
The cost varies widely depending on the site, but we've created
sites ranging in values from $1500 to $12,000 or more.
We'll have a much better idea of cost after we speak with
you concerning your Internet goals. Most of the time, we are
able to provide a quote after our initial consultation.
I have a buddy who's got FrontPage. He's pretty good with
computers and has offered to make my web site for a steal.
Should I let him?
We don't generally wax philosophic about someone's choice
of web design tools, but with FrontPage we have to make an
exception. Sorry, Bill, but that's how we feel.
While FrontPage is easy to use for non-programmers and is
good enough to use to create one's personal home page ("My
visit to the beach with Fluffy"), it produces bloaty
(and sometimes error-prone) HTML code that is only understood
in certain server environments. We like to use Macromedia
products because the code it produces is sleek and is cross-server
compatible.
How long will it take to create my web site?
The time it takes to create or redesign a site varies by customer
and is directly related to the number of pages you'll need
as well as the overall complexity of the site. We've had sites
up and running in less than a week, while others take a little
longer to construct.
In general, static (non-dynamic) sites take less time to
construct than those requiring custom programming (ASP/PHP).
What's your payment schedule?
We receive 1/2 payment of our estimate when we are hired, and the final
1/2 is due when the site is ready to go live.
Do you offer any specials or discounts?
Some portions of our services are discounted on a volume basis.
For instance, you receive a discount when paying for web hosting
or maintenance in advance, or if you are a charitable nonprofit
organization.
We also have a referral program - if someone you recommend
becomes a customer themselves (for at least 90 days) - we
offer a free month of web hosting for your domain.
I'm ready to take the next step. What should I do now?
Call or contact
us to arrange an initial consultation. There's no obligation.
